江戸時代の手持ち式眼鏡に着想を得た、耳に掛けないメガネ型ルーペです。「メガネをかけるほどではないけれど、少し見えにくい」という日常の小さな不便に着目し、必要なときだけ手に取り、目元にかざして使える携帯型の視界サポートツールとして設計しました。素材には眼鏡フレームにも用いられるセルロースアセテートを採用し、軽さと質感、持ち物としての美しさを両立。財布やポーチ、胸ポケットにも収まりやすいサイズ感で、外出先や仕事場、自宅などさまざまな場面で自然に使えます。製造は福井県鯖江市の眼鏡工房が担当し、歴史ある眼鏡の所作を現代の暮らしに合わせて再構築しました。

A handheld glasses-style loupe inspired by spectacles from Japan’s Edo period. The design focuses on the small everyday inconvenience of moments when things are “slightly hard to see, but not enough to put on glasses.” EDOGANE is designed as a portable visual support tool that can be picked up and held in front of the eyes only when needed. Made from cellulose acetate, a material commonly used for eyewear frames, it combines lightness, tactile quality, and the appeal of an object worth carrying. Its compact form fits easily into a wallet, pouch, or breast pocket, making it suitable for use while out, at work, or at home. Produced by an eyewear workshop in Sabae, Fukui, the project reinterprets the gesture and character of historical spectacles for contemporary everyday life.
